Listen

One generation will praise your works to the next one, proclaiming your mighty acts. They will talk all about the glorious splendor of your majesty; I will contemplate your wondrous works. They will speak of the power of your awesome deeds; I will declare your great accomplishments. They will rave in celebration of your abundant goodness; they will shout joyfully about your righteousness: “The Lord is merciful and compassionate, very patient, and full of faithful love.”

Psalm 145:4-8

Think

King David is in declaration mode, filled with wonder for God, who was continually doing remarkable things, and confident that every generation would be talking about and praising God too. David thinks about God’s achievements and cannot help but speak about them. He is not embarrassed in any way; he just wants to tell others of God’s mercy, patience, and love.

As king, David would have been readily listened to, but people also listen to us when we share sincerely about our love of God and the reasons why we love God. We are part of this generation, called to share and help pass on the wonderful truth about God. We do not need a degree in theology; we can simply share from our own experience of God’s love, and the reality of what God means to us will be enough for others to begin to understand. We do not all have extrovert personalities, and that is not required. With God’s help, we can share the truth.

What are your most treasured thoughts about God that you would be willing to share with others?

Pray

God, thank you that you are mighty and strong in all that you do, yet you are patient, loving, and kind toward me. From a generous heart, you continually give to all your children. Help me to be generous to others, sharing your love and the wonder of who you are with those around me. Amen.

Go in the strength God gives you. Be generous, not judgmental toward others, and in this way share God’s love and compassion as you live.
