Make your ways known to me, Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth—teach it to me—because you are the God who saves me. I put my hope in you all day long. Lord, remember your compassion and faithful love—they are forever! But don’t remember the sins of my youth or my wrongdoing. Remember me only according to your faithful love for the sake of your goodness, Lord.

Think
When we use a navigation app and take a wrong turn, a new route quickly appears. No matter how much we insist on going our own way, if we want to reach the right destination, at some point we’ll have to follow the directions provided.
In life, we also want to choose our own path. Sometimes we think we know what decision to make, which friendships are right for us, or how to solve a problem. Admitting that we need guidance can be difficult because it means accepting that we don’t have all the answers.
In Psalm 25, we find a humble plea: to know God’s ways, to learn, and to receive guidance. The psalmist acknowledges past mistakes but also trusts in God’s love and compassion. Perhaps today you’re facing a decision and don’t know which way to go. You don’t have to know the whole path. Humility begins by saying, “God, teach me.” There is power in acknowledging that we need guidance and in allowing God to transform our path.
