The first few weeks of school are full of small choices. Who do we sit with? Do we laugh at that joke? When do we speak up—and when do we stay silent? Those everyday decisions may seem small, but they reveal who we are becoming. And when fitting in feels important, it can be tempting to simply go along with the crowd.

The prophet Isaiah offers a different challenge: “Act justly and do what is righteous.” Following God isn’t about blending in—it’s about showing up differently.

That means speaking up when someone is treated unfairly. Sometimes it means refusing to join in gossip, cheating, or putting someone down just because everyone else is. Following God takes courage because it means letting God’s values shape our choices instead of the crowd’s expectations.

When we choose justice, kindness, and courage, God uses those choices to transform us as we lean into becoming the person God always intended us to be.

What is one situation where God might be calling you to choose courage over convenience this week?

Pray

God of justice, help me follow you instead of the crowd, even when it is difficult. Transform my heart and my actions so others can see your love through me. Amen.
