“God fills every part of space with all of [God’s] Being.”

– Louis Berkhof, Systematic Theology, 1949

Listen

We were saved in hope. If we see what we hope for, that isn’t hope. Who hopes for what they already see? But if we hope for what we don’t see, we wait for it with patience.

Romans 8:24-25

Think

In our scripture for today, Paul explains the importance of faith when it cannot rely entirely on human evidence or assurances. Some situations are beyond our control and capacity. And in the midst of that lack of certainties, Paul notices the presence of God. When we feel that God has left, it is an opportunity to put into practice what we believe. Faith is strengthened when we learn to trust that God remains faithful. Even when we do not see, our lives are full of God.

Sight is one of the senses that many people take for granted. Seeing is a gift for which we should give thanks. However, to believe, we must accept that not everything will be seen clearly. Sometimes we will have to wait when we face those questions without answers, illnesses without a cure, or failures that seem insurmountable. The apostles words focus on the waiting that resists despair with steadfastness. And the steadfastness comes from God, who is here. God gives us the strength to endure to the end.

Question to Ponder:

What steps can I take today, even if I dont have all the answers?

Pray

God, I accept with confidence all those situations over which I have no control and cannot change. Calm my anxiety, as I wait anchored on the rock that is Christ. Amen.
