Ordinary Time
In athletics, “on your mark” is the signal that precedes everything. Stop. Breathe. Get into position. God has something to say to you today. The race that matters is about to begin.
We have different gifts that are consistent with God’s grace that has been given to us. If your gift is prophecy, you should prophesy in proportion to your faith. If your gift is service, devote yourself to serving. If your gift is teaching, devote yourself to teaching. If your gift is encouragement, devote yourself to encouraging. The one giving should do it with no strings attached. The leader should lead with passion. The one showing mercy should be cheerful.
Romans 12:6-8
There was a time when running, swimming, and baseball came naturally to me. My body responded. Today it’s not the same. Over time, the body changes. What used to be easy now requires more effort. Legs get heavier. Breathing changes. But I have learned something: the person with true discipline is not the one who never tires. It’s the one who gets tired and comes back. The one who recognizes their limits and keeps going anyway.
In our scripture for today, Paul tells the church: we have different gifts, according to the grace God has given us. He does not say that we all have to give equally. He says that each one should use what they have—with faithfulness, with generosity, with dedication. Maybe today you can’t give what you used to give. That’s okay. Give what you have today. That is also discipline. That also honors God.
Use faithfully what God gave you. That is enough.

Question to Ponder:
What gift do you have today, however small, that you can put at the service of God and others?
God, thank you for the gifts I have today. Help me to use them faithfully, even if I feel limited. I trust that what is in your hands is multiplied. Amen.
Go out today with purpose. Don’t run alone. Run with the team God gave you, with the gifts God gave you, into the world God loves so much. On your mark, get set…go!
