Journey to the Cross
There are places in your life that feel dry, empty, like lifeless bones. Breathe. God is already there, in that exact place. Rest for a moment in the presence of the one who makes all things new.
I hope, Lord. My whole being hopes, and I wait for God’s promise. My whole being waits for my Lord—more than the night watch waits for morning; yes, more than the night watch waits for morning!
Israel, wait for the Lord! Because faithful love is with the Lord; because great redemption is with our God!
Psalm 130:5-7
Waiting is probably one of the hardest things there is. Waiting for test results, waiting for someone to get back to you, waiting for things to get better when everything seems to be going wrong. We live in a world where everything is instantaneous: food, answers, entertainment, etc. So when something makes us wait, we despair.
But notice the image the psalmist uses: like a night watchman waiting for the dawn. That guard has no doubt that the sun will rise. He doesn’t wonder “what if it doesn’t dawn today?” He knows with certainty that morning is coming. The waiting is not about whether God is going to show up. It’s about trusting that God is on the way. And while we wait, we are not alone in the darkness. The psalmist reminds us that in God there is “unfailing love.” A love that never ends, that never tires of you, that has no expiration date. That is what sustains us while we wait.

Question to Ponder:
What are you waiting for in your life right now, and how does it change knowing that God’s love is with you in that wait?
Patient God, teach me to wait with confidence, knowing that you are never late. When the wait feels eternal, remind me that your unfailing love sustains me every second. Amen.
Renewed by the breath of God that lifts what has fallen and gives life to what seemed dead, go out into the world with courage and tenderness. Someone needs to hear today that hope has not ended.
