Ordinary Time
There are many voices vying for your attention. Pause, breathe, and listen. God is present. Perhaps following Jesus begins here: making room to recognize God’s voice and paying attention to what is happening around you.
I sought the Lord and he answered me. He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to God will shine; their faces are never ashamed. This suffering person cried out: the Lord listened and saved him from every trouble. On every side, the Lord’s messenger protects those who honor God; and he delivers them. Taste and see how good the Lord is! The one who takes refuge in him is truly happy!
Psalm 34:4–8
There was a time during my teenage years when I wanted to get to know God, but I wasn’t quite sure how to go about it. I had fears, questions, and many things I still didn’t understand. So I started with something simple: praying and reading the gospels. I wanted to know who Jesus was, not just hear what other people said about him. Psalm 34 speaks of seeking God in the midst of fears and anxieties, and of personally discovering God’s goodness.
Faith doesn’t always begin with certainty. Sometimes it begins with the decision to seek. Perhaps you, too, are trying to understand your faith. You don’t have to pretend to be sure or have all your questions answered. You can start right where you are. Talk to God. Open the Bible. Ask questions. Be still. Dare to seek and discover God’s goodness for yourself.

Question to Ponder:
What simple step could you take today to seek God right where you are?
God, I come to you with my questions, my fears, and the things I don’t yet understand. Help me to know you and discover your goodness in my life. Amen.
Now go back to your day. Look closely. Listen intently. Show your love through your actions. Follow Jesus in your daily life, remembering that you are not alone and that your life, too, can help someone else find their way.
