Ordinary Time

Pause

Let us pay attention to what we can see and what we cannot see; what we can feel and touch, what we can hear and smell. God manifests in many different ways in our lives.

Listen

When Jesus went into the ruler’s house, he saw the flute players and the distressed crowd. He said, “Go away, because the little girl isn’t dead but is asleep,” but they laughed at him. After he had sent the crowd away, Jesus went in and touched her hand, and the little girl rose up. News about this spread throughout that whole region.

Matthew 9:23-26

Think

I think many people like to receive surprises. Sometimes we have a clue that we are going to receive a surprise. Other times, we cant even imagine what we are going to receive. One way or another, receiving something unexpected gives us joy and reminds us we are loved.

The people who were present with Jesus did not expect the girl to rise because they thought she was dead. Many times, we act the same way as the people in the text. We have it in our minds that things are one way, and we dont expect things to change.

Jesus surprises us day by day in ways we do not expect. We believe in what we see and not in what may be in Christ Jesus. Let us look around us and see all the ways Jesus surprises us through our families, friendships, and the various communities we belong to.

Pray

Lord Jesus, may your presence surprise me even when I resist your surprises. Teach me to see infinite surprises in you. In your name I pray, Amen.
