Ordinary Time
I take a deep breath and pause in God’s presence. I set aside my own haste and open my heart to let God’s truth guide me.
But can anyone know what they’ve accidentally done wrong? Clear me of any unknown sin and save your servant from willful sins. Don’t let them rule me. Then I’ll be completely blameless; I’ll be innocent of great wrongdoing.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:12–14
Hopefully, journeying through life leads to recognizing that we are not perfect and that we often stumble without even realizing it. It’s easy to point out others’ faults while ignoring our own. Pride leads us to believe that we are always right, erecting walls that distance us from the community and from sincere love.
The psalmist teaches us an attitude of profound courage: the humility of looking inward. Acknowledging our vulnerability before God is not meant to fill us with guilt, but to make room for transformation. By asking that our words and thoughts be pleasing to God, we seek to ensure that what dwells in the innermost parts of our being resonates with the compassion, empathy, and peace we wish to sow in the world.

Question to Ponder:
What have you discovered within yourself today that might make you more humble?
God of grace, search my heart and cleanse me of the pride that separates me from my neighbors. May every thought and word that springs from within me be an instrument of your peace and a reflection of your redeeming love. Amen.
Go in peace. Go with the certainty that God guides your steps, restores your life, and renews your hope. Be a reflection of God’s love, light, and grace to everyone you meet along the way. Amen.
