Ordinary Time
Blessed are you who seek the secluded place to rest.
The Lord is my shepherd. I lack nothing. He lets me rest in grassy meadows; he leads me to restful waters; he keeps me alive. He guides me in proper paths for the sake of his good name.
Psalm 23:1-3
Before athletes began competition at my university, a sign hung as a reminder to “give my all for (said university) today!” It was an expectation to perform at the highest level and to finish the competition with nothing left in the tank. To do less was insufficient. Win or lose, the task then turned to recovery for the next competition; moreover, in a loss, doubts of having given enough crept in.
Our scripture for today is a psalm of enough.
The psalmist tells us that with God, we are not left empty. We lack nothing. God’s reputation depends on that. God is a creator, and the bounty of creation makes us come alive: the smell and softness of fresh grass, the sound and chill of the waters, and in art, such as the poetry the psalmists themselves were moved to write. God loves us. We are enough, because God will not leave us lacking.

Question to Ponder:
How has God reminded you that you are enough?
Fount of Life, refresh me with the works you’ve surrounded me with, so that I will no longer thirst. I will be satisfied and content. It will be enough. In the name of the Lord who is living water, Amen.
As the hours of the coming day pass, calm presence and bustling activity will ebb and flow.
God is near. God renews. Moment by moment. Each moment for the next moment.
