Ordinary Time

Pause

“Discernment is listening to the gentle voice of Love.”

– Henri Nouwen

Listen

But let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you, and let those who love your saving help say again and again: “God is great!”
But me? I’m poor and needy. Hurry to me, God! You are my helper and my deliverer. Oh, Lord, don’t delay!

Psalm 70:4-5

Think

Wisdom does not give us all the answers; it simply directs us where to turn when we’re answerless. Wisdom allows the psalmist in today’s reading to pray, “I am poor and needy…You are my help and my deliverer.” Wisdom gently recognizes our limitations and reminds us that we don’t have to figure life out alone.

Many of us tend to create our own internal stability by rushing toward certainty, seeking safety in a world that so often twists toward chaos. But the psalmist reminds us that the first wise choice we can make is to admit that God is God and we are not. From there, we can pause to ask for God’s help; this humility gives wisdom enough room to shape our next step. Today, don’t look for perfect answers. Instead, look for ways to feel God’s presence — it is with you, always.

Before making a decision today, pause and simply ask, “God, what would lead me closer to feeling grounded in your love?”

Question to Ponder:

When you don’t know what to do, where do you tend to look first for answers?

Pray

God of wisdom, help me notice your voice, trust your love, and choose the path that leads to life. Amen.

Go

Wisdom grows every time we pause, listen, and choose love.
